How to Choose a Web Developer in Sri Lanka: 8 Questions to Ask
Hiring a developer is a big decision. Use these eight practical questions to compare freelancers and agencies with confidence.
A good website brings in customers for years. A bad one costs money twice: once to build and again to fix. These questions help you compare developers fairly before you commit.
Questions about their work
- Can I see live websites you have built, and speak to those clients?
- Who will actually build my site, and who will I talk to day to day?
- Do you build on WordPress, plain HTML or React, and why is that right for me?
- How do you handle mobile layout, speed and basic SEO?
Questions about the deal
- What exactly is included in the price: design, hosting, domain, content, revisions?
- What is the timeline, and what happens if either side is late?
- Who owns the design and code after I pay in full?
- What support do I get after launch, and what does it cost?
Red flags
Be careful with a quote that is far below everyone else, no written scope, no live examples, pressure to pay everything upfront or a developer who keeps the login details to your own domain. A fair payment plan usually starts with a deposit and finishes with a balance before final delivery.
Trust your communication
Notice how clearly they answer. A good developer explains choices in plain language, listens to your goals and tells you when something is not worth building. That attitude matters as much as technical skill.
